Fukushima media blackout
It has now been nearly 9 month since the March 11 Earthquake. Truthful depictions of the ongoing and worsening after effects of a broken reactor are "scrubbed" from Google and mainstream sources.
One story in particular is the inevitability of the "China Syndrome" where radioactive material melts through the facility floors and into the soil and water table, creating underground reactions and steam explosions.

Late July
Energy efficiency and renewable energy production,'closing the loop' is the name of the game. Hydrocarbon fuel economy is holding on, the nuclear sect too. What does a new economy look like? Small scale energy systems implemented on home or neighborhood scale. Create water abundance and healthy soils. Windmills, hydro wheels, and solar cells. Just slowing down development policy would reduce the stress a lot. A healthy community has healthy soils, and healthy water. This creates healthy people, happy people who are living consciously because they are playing an active role in their life. These healthy people create a healthy economy which exists to sustain the local economy, not overproduction and depletion of natural resources, but creation and encouragement of healthy local ecosystems- full circle, closing the loop.

Radioactive C-137 found in Tokyo tap water and radioactive soils found outside of exclusion zone.
Products including spinach, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tea, milk, plums and fish have been found to be contaminated with cesium and iodine as far as 360 kilometres (224 miles) from the station and the London-based World Nuclear Association has warned that prolonged exposure to radiation in the air, ground and food can cause leukemia and other cancers.
The UV index in Northern California is 11+, as high and as dangerous as the scale goes.

2011 weather observations
What a strange year of weather we have had! After the wettest winter in several years it is still raining well into springtime in May. Here in Nevada County we have high winds, heavy rain and snow, and cold northern airmasses consistently since March.
Looking at the United States scale, the Mississipi river system is at flood stage and it continues to rain, forcing calculated areas to be flooded so as to save other areas. Mighty tornadoes in the midwest, as cold northern and warm wet souther air masses collide with violent outcomes. Tectonic activity on the Pacific Rim, in the past year huge releases in the Andes, New Zealand, and most recently Japan, leaving us on the West Coast of North America wondering when the next big stress release will occur in the Coast, Sierra Nevada, and/or Cascade ranges.
These enhanced weather events lead to human responses- an emergency drill in California to prepare for a 100 year flood, which created a 300 mile lake in the central valley in the 1850s. Sacramento is apparently only second to New Orleans in the country for vulnerability to flooding. In Japan a large nuclear power facility lost power after earthquake and tsunami, and now, 2 months later it has come out that there was in fact meltdowns of nuclear fuel there leading to massive amounts of radioactive material in the atmosphere, which has been found in plants in Northern California to Europe. I for one see a connection between the intense storms we had around the 20th of March and the radioactive releases from Japan which came across the Northern Pacific and act as cloud condensing materials to enhance what might have otherwise been an average storm system.
This is no doubt nothing new, we as humans like to think that such super weather is somehow special to our small time in a long 4.5 billion year earth history. We do however have communication and access to information to know about all of these events in much greater detail than before, which was most likely not available to people just decades ago.
Climate engineering programs are still in research phase, and still not public knowledge at this point, but the fact that stratospheric aersol injections, weather manipulation, and so called "chem trails" are more frequent in our environment is become more apparent to the general population. More information is becoming public in government reports such as this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/pdfs/Geongineeringreport.pdf. Whether or not extreme weather events could be influenced by weather manipulation research programs is not known, and may not be for some time, as most people simply do not "look up" very often.
On the solar system scale, NASA has given data on at least two large asteroids which will come into our near solar system this fall.
One being called YU55: http://www.astronomy.com/en/News-Observing/News/2010/04/Arecibo%20telescope%20tracks%20potentially%20dangerous%20asteroid%20within%2015%20million%20miles%20of%20Earth.aspx

At this time there seems to be a lot of people actively believing that the "end times" type prophecies are upon us (Mayan calendar 2012, May 21st Judgement day). I for one believe this is an arrogant anthropocentric viewpoint, one that thinks somehow reality starts and ends with humans and human conciousness. I do however think that many forces coming together, in particular human development and rapid industrial depletion of natural resources on a planetary scale is having some bad effects on human cultures across the world, "global warming" is an outdated term and should be discarded, one would be smart to realize that "climate change" is in fact occurring on a time scale by which we can participate. Howevere it is true that Ignorance is Bliss, and it is easy to see why many people simply do not want to believe that how they think and live their lives may not be entirely what they have been lead to believe their whole lives, especially older generations, and that is understandable and fine.
It is important at this time for we as humans, to look up from our computer screens and "smart phones" to the world which we are an integral part of, not separate from. All of our actions have deep and lasting effects on our own lives and health, our communities' well being, and even on our planet as a whole. This of course is not obviously apparent, but we are dynamic beings containing and belonging to many dynamic systems within which we participate everyday.

Radiation continued...
now its been 2.5 months, Japanese prime minister still hopeful that some sort of solution can be worked out at the Fukushima plant in 6 - 9 months, by JANUARY 2012.
Sounds pretty bad. Turns out there was a full meltdown on the day of march 11th, 2011, now its public knowledge.
UC Berkeley researches (with a vested interest in nuclear tech over there at Lawrence Livermore National Labratory) have found rising amounts of Cesium-137 in Kale, Strawberry, and Grass samples in Northern California... and it just had to happen at the same time we got our garden going good enough to eat fresh greens every night.
Oh well....

YU55
This asteroid, named "YU55" will be the closest to the earth in our recent history, between earth and moon, and ~1/4 miles across. It has been labeled by NASA as "potentially hazardous". It will be closest to Planet Earth on November 8th. Big media has broken the story this week:

CPUC public hearing in SF or "WE HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY SHUT DOWN THE NUKES"
A Public hearing for the California Public Utilities Commission on April 14th 2011 in the state building at 505 Van Ness Civic Center San Francisco FLYER
The commission heard from 30+ concerned citizens, mostly about safety hazards posed by smart meters and especially the proposed re-licensing of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in San Luis Obispo County. This comes after an "unprecendented" nuclear crisis situation (ongoing) on Japan's northeastern coast at the Fukushima Plant, and discovery of previously undiscovered fault lines within the Diablo Plant area (who's fault? OUR FAULT!) Many were over the generation and actual activists who opposed the diablo canyon and san onofre plants 20 years ago, saddened that it is still occurring for sure but still at it nonetheless with more conviction than ever (I'll assume since its my first experience with such group). Complete with drums, posters, banners, guitar, (no megaphone?) for the 50+ protesters on the state hall steps afterwards. We want a full life! We dont want a half-life.
Here is what it is about CPUC ENERGY DIVISION RESOLUTION E-4398
Good experience to see how the commission operates, learned a lot.

The problem with a situation like this is the fact that its effects will not be immediate, so the "big deal" may not occur for some time, allowing for many, government, industry, sycophants alike to write it off as no risk to public health.

PG & E should not get a "free ride" on this one, our safety, the safety of the people, ordinary people not corporate executives who have several homes, depends on it. After mini-disasters like at its San Bruno site this summer, it is bad for the market too.
